| DYNO TESTING AT DAVE COOPER RACING - KETTERING. We spent a day on the Dyno at Dave’s race workshop, and a most productive day it was too. After 20 minutes running in a new cylinder, we set about making some set up changes. We tried a few different cylinder heads, with changes to profiles and volumes. We came up with a good setting for the forthcoming season. Dave is also working on some more inserts for the heads using the info gained from the dyno testing. We then tried another set of exhausts which proved to be a good improvement over last season’s pipes. Lastly we did some adjustments to ignition curves and again found some good improvements. In all, over last years settings we have gained about 5% more peak power, and also, more importantly a huge gain in over-rev power. We now have approximately 15bhp more at 14,000 rpm. I must thank Dave, Matt and Ryan at Dave Cooper Racing for all their help throughout the day and into the evening. The image below shows the improvements made during the dyno testing. The green line was with our initial settings. The pink and black lines show what can be done with ignition setting adjustments.
MALLORY PARK TRACKDAY 1st APRIL. We had hoped to do some testing in Spain, but in the end we ran out of time as we were waiting on parts. So in the end we booked into the Trackday at Mallory. This was not exactly ideal, as the sessions were open to road rider as well as racers. Even so, we did 4 sessions of 20 minutes. Just enough to blow the cobwebs away…. The sessions went well. After any new parts are fitted which gain considerable power increase, there is always a slight concern over reliability, but the day went without any hitches. The bike performed flawlessly all day.
We are now looking into a practice day at Silverstone in a couple of
weeks. Dave Cooper is trying to arrange an ex
world grand prix 250 rider to have a few goes on the bike to
assist Andy in sorting the chassis a little.
